Tips about weather for travel in Vietnam

Although Vietnam’s weather belongs to tropical kind, it is divided into two different climate zones. Hai Van Pass is like a fence between these two zones.
The North has two distinct seasons: winter and summer.Winter is from November to March. Meanwhile, the summer is from May to September. Autumn and Spring are not clear.
In the winter Hanoi’s temperature can be down to 10-degree Celsius. You need to prepared clothes in the winter when you are in the North from October to February.
In the winter, even in Sapa, Ha Giang, it snows, areas of the north of central Vietnam are not very cold through the season. Usually, there are some short stages (last about 3days to a week or more – depending on each year) that the weather is very cold in the north entirely.
Also, it is hard to find oversize clothes in Vietnam, and you need to prepare to protect your skin especially your lips because of hoar frost in the winter.

In the summer, it is hotter in the north than in the south in Vietnam. It likes blazing hot days and makes you sweat out. It has many bloods or rain from East Sea in July and August, but it is not so dangerous that you to delay your trips with beautiful beaches in the whole summer.
If you have any intention for Ha Long, Sapa, Ha Giang or Hue tours at this period, keep watch on weather broadcast of rains. In many cities, in case it rains, nylon raincoats will be immediately sold with the price of 10.000 dongs for each.
In September, it is the best time to visit Mu Cang Chai, Sapa when level terrace field is full of ripped rice.In October and November - Autumn, many visitors go by motorbikes to Ha Giang ( there has hiring motorbikes service) to take pictures of flowers of  Tam Giac Mach.
You can watch this video.

Also, this is the best periods for visiting Hanoi. Autumn in Hanoi always makes inspiration for many authors to create literatural and musical works. Yellow leaves fall on the streets, and you will not sweat out, just slightly cold in the late afternoon and at night.

The South of Vietnam, including Da Nang city, has two seasons: dry and rain seasons. The weather here doesn’t change much. Therefore, no need to worry about your travel here. In the rain season – from May to November, there are many times of rain but they don’t last too long. It is usually very hot too, but in general, it is more comfortable than in the north. The dry season from February to April. Temperature is not too high and is not too low.

Da Lat city, especially, has distinct weather compared to the south’s. The weather here is like in Sapa, there are four seasons in a day. It is hot at noons but kind of cold in the afternoons. Therefore, Dalat is considered as the heaven of flowers and here also has many interesting festivals.
Spring. Lunar New Year is the traditional occasion of Vietnamese. It happens at the end of January, and some kinds of foods, flowers, and clothes become more expensive. From October to March, there are many foreigners coming to Vietnam. Hotels will be full, and also traveling destinations have many visitors. Visting Vietnam in the summer will help you to have a more economical budget, but instead, rains may prevent you from going somewhere.

Notices for tourists visiting Vietnam

1.    Money

Official unit of money in Vietnam is VND, there are 10 face values: 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10 000, 20 000, 50 000, 100 000, 200 000, 500 000. It is quite similar in color between 20 000 and 500 000, so you need be careful. Also, now many people, stores…( business actions that don’t relate to paperwork) use “K” as a unit of account. “K” is equivalent to “thousand dong”. I don’t know why but maybe it’s more convenient, and this is used mainly by young people. For example: 5k=5000vnd,80 000vnd = 80k, 100 000vnd = 100k, ….

2.    Bus

If you want to use the bus in Vietnam, you should know something about this kind of vehicle. The bus is often very crowding; you should be careful with your properties. Most staffs on the bus can not understand English, you should learn by hard in Vietnamese names of the place which you want to go, and tell them. Also, you can write down or prepare available names in Vietnamese of your destination on paper, phone,.. then get help from staffs on the bus.
The cost of the bus ticket is usually cheap; you should prepare some small face values as 2k, 5k, 10k, 20k.
According to regulations as well as culture, on the bus, everyone should give up the seats for elders, children, and disability.

3.    Shopping

In market or stores chain on streets, most of the sellers are friendly but sometimes when you go into somewhere and watch, try on things without buying anything, they will not be happy even angry or disturb you until you buy their product. This is one of the sadness in Vietnam in the eyes of tourists; we are trying to eliminate this.
Also, the sellers have their taboos, if shopping early in the morning, visitors should avoid bargaining or see without buying. When you want to buy something you should ask the price before deciding to buy.

4.    Crossing the streets

Traffic in big cities in Vietnam is quite complex and the main vehicle moving on the road is motorbikes, so, crossing the street is also a problem with tourists. Beside streets that have enough and convenient crosswalks, many aren't. And crossing streets without the crosswalk is a habit in Vietnam. If you have never done this, you will feel that it is very difficult and dangerous even you will not dare. I was in that situation at the first time in Hanoi, but now I do this every day. ^.^
So to do this you need stare at people who are moving toward you, walk steadily. The motorbikers will avoid you, but you also must be flexible in moving, the big cars and bus don’t stop to concede you.You also can get help from native people to cross the roads. If you wait for no vehicle on the street to cross, you will have to stand there all day.

5.

If you visit Hoàn Kiếm lake in Hanoi city, you may meet many native people want to get into a conversation with you. They are English learners and students like me; they just want to have opportunities to train English skill. Some tourists are not pleased because they don’t want to be disturbed or because of “the English of the native” here. But I think you should talk to them; they are very friendly and enthusiastic. Through these English learners you can get some more useful information, make friends or even get a free tour guide for your trips around Hanoi.

Wish you have a happy trip!

Movement from Noibai International Airport to Hanoi center – Vietnam

Usually, when deciding to travel in Vietnam, most people choose to go to Hanoi as the first destination.
From Noibai international airport, you have following ways to move to center of the city.
  •       Taxi. This is most quickly, convenient and easy. Out of Noi Bai airport, you turn right, there are many taxies from Noi Bai to Ha Noi at the airport: Noi Bai Taxi, Dai Nam, Viet Thanh, Mai Linh, Taxi Group, Grab... The price range is around 280,000 VND - 350,000 VND (about $ 13 to $16) from Noi Bai to Hanoi.

  •       Cars from airline companies. This way is used popularly by passengers and ticket is about $2. Airlines such as Vietnam Airline, Jetstar or Vietjet have a shuttle bus from the airport to Hanoi.out of the airport gate, you can easily find this kind of transfer vehicles, don’t forget to ask price and route before getting in. With Vietnam Airline's vehicles, the last destination is Quang Trung Street (only 2 km from Hoàn Kiếm lake). You also have easy access to other places in Hanoi. However, these vehicles often have to wait for enough passenger cars to run and if your needs are not located in the path of the car, after the last point, you still have to take taxi or Xe ôm to go to the place.

  •       Bus. Bus transportation from Noi Bai airport to Hanoi center is only about 8,000-9.000VNĐ / pass. This is the cheapest way. As soon as you leave Noi Bai Airport, you will find a bus stop near Noi Bai International Airport, just 200m from Noi Bai Airport. There are 4 bus routes Noi Bai - Hanoi route 07, 17, 90 and 86. However, the bus is usually very crowding, sometimes not safe for properties and it is not easy for foreigners to get off bus stop correctly because of difficulty in language.
